Artificial intelligence is one of the most important outcomes of the Fourth Industrial Revolution due to its multiple uses in various fields such as economy, technology, industry, and education. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology in recent years, its use in education has become increasingly apparent. In this context, the study aims to explore the role of artificial intelligence applications in developing the educational process in Algerian universities. To answer the research questions, a questionnaire was used and distributed to a sample of 120 professors from various Algerian universities. The study also adopted both the descriptive and interpretive approaches. The study led to several findings: artificial intelligence applications contribute to the development and improvement of the educational process (in terms of performance quality and product quality); they improve teachers’ performance through the use of AI applications, such as distance education (e.g., the Moodle platform); and they contribute to achieving quality university education.
